2019年8月31日、福武ラーニングシアターにてソニー株式会社による寄付講座「ヒューマンオーグメンテーション学」の第5回セミナーが開催されました。前回までの「身体能力の拡張」「存在の拡張」「知覚の拡張」というテームに続き、今回は「認知能力の拡張」をテーマとして、2名の識者による講演およびパネルセッションが行われました。
株式会社ハコスコ代表取締役、デジタルハリウッド大学教授藤井直敬先生による講演では、「意識と無意識の間」をテーマとし、テクノロジーは人間の知りえない外部と環世界を操作できるという哲学の観点から、先行研究や実験事例の紹介を交えて、テクノロジーによる認知能力の拡張について語られました。また、慶應義塾大学今井むつみ先生からは、「ことばを通して視る世界」という演題で、ことばのカテゴリーによる世界の分節とカテゴリ形成・パッケージ化、嗅覚の記憶や、色の知覚に対する言語の影響の紹介を通じ、ことばは感覚世界の拡張、歪みの生成、抽象的な認識世界を形成するとという結論を明らかにしました。
同講座の暦本純一教授も参加したパネルディスカッションでは、言語と意識・無意識、仮想現実の繋がりをもとに、テクノロジーによる言語能力の拡張についての可能性について議論が交わされました。

On August 31st, 2019, the 5th seminar of “Human Augmentation (endowed chair by Sony)” was held at the Fukutake Learning Theater. Following the theme of “Augmentation of the Physical Abilities”, “Augmentation of the Presence” and “Augmentation of the Perception”, this time two lectures as well as one panel session was held with the theme of “Augmentation of the Cognition Ability”.
The CEO of Hacosco Inc. and professor of Digital Hollywood University, Prof. Naotaka Fujii, talked on the theme of “Between consciousness and unconsciousness”. He introduced the concept of augmenting the cognition of the Ring World, and developed the role that technology was expected to play by listing specific previous work as well as several experimental examples. Additionally, Prof. Mutsumi Imai from Keio University developed the lecture by introducing different categories used by different languages to tell things apart or categorizing things. The cognition influence brought by language, olfactory memory related to language and cognition influence on color perception were also involved to help draw the conclusion that language can augment as well as distort our sense towards the living world; thus, form an abstract cognition of the world.
In the panel session, Prof. Jun Rekimoto also joined the discussion on integrating language with features of consciousness and unconsciousness, and further with Virtual Reality (VR) technologies. A lively discussion was conducted on the potential of utilizing technology to augment the ability of language.
